Music Online

February 5, 2010 - Leave a Response

Online music has come a long ways since the infamous file sharing days. Today, there are so many legal places to listen to music online; there is no need for the alternatives. So, Spreety.com put together a video about the right places to listen to music online, including radio stations and music videos.

Among the top picks, AOL Radio hosts thousands of radio stations categorized by genre. The genres include Blues, Classic, Christian Rock, Jazz, R&B, Country, and more. In addition to the genres, many local stations are online, such as, for Los Angeles, the popular K-EARTH 101 and KNX 1070.

AOL’s Spinner has full CD parties, where a variety of top CD’s can be selected and played online. Individual tracks as well as the entire CD can be played on demand.
For music videos, several of the TV stations have their music videos online. As examples, BET (Black Entertainment Television), CMT (Country Music Television), GAC (Great America Country), MTV, VH1, and VH1 Classic all host an extensive library of top performers online.

Possibly, the most unique of the online music players is Pandora Radio. Pandora is completely customizable, and is based on the ten year old Music Genome Project. The Music Genome Project classifies every song based on what each individual song sounds like. By typing in a few preferences, Pandora is able to play many more songs of a similar nature. If a song plays that one does not like, a simple thumbs-down will remove it and songs similar to it. Pandora has taken customization to a whole new level.

Lastly, Yahoo! Kids hosts thousands of music videos that are perfectly appropriate for the little ones.

If you would like to learn more about music online, please visit the Spreety TV Online site, and look under TV Genres, Music & Radio to enjoy music online.

Classic TV Online

January 28, 2010 - Leave a Response

How well do you remember the classic TV shows from the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s? In Bewitched, did Darren know Samantha’s talents before they were married? In the Andy Griffith show, was it Ronnie or Ronny Howard? How did the Long Ranger come to be, and why did Tonto save him? Answers to these and more can be found online, where many of the classics have been given new life.

Sites like TV Land, Sony’s Crackle, Hulu, Fancast, CBS, NBC, and more have brought back many of the classics, fully restored, and placed them online for free. People can watch such classics in higher quality today than they ever could with broadcast TV from those decades long ago.

For the 1930’s and 1940’s, some of the classics online are The Three Stooges and The Lone Ranger. For the 1950’s, Leave it to Beaver, Casper The Friendly Ghost, Gunsmoke, The Twilight Zone, and many more are online. For the 1960’s, The Addams Family, The Andy Griffith Show, The Beverly Hillbillies, Bewithed, Bonanza, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Hogan’s Heroes, I Dream of Jeannie, The Jetsons, Star Trek, and much more are online.

While the classic TV shows are free online, the shows will play with limited commercials. It is only fair that we recognize the sponsors who made such an amazing library of online TV possible for us to enjoy.

So where do you find the right places to watch such classics online? Simple: Spreety TV Online. From the main Spreety.com site, go to the “Classic TV” tab, and select the decade of choice. Find the show of interest, and click the graphic to launch the show from the right place to watch online.

With the extensive library of classic TV online, there should never be a dull day. Simply put, there’s more than anyone can watch.

Online TV has many popular sites, such as ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX. However, there are many additional sites that are a worthy diversion.

As examples, Funny or Die is a democratic site for rating comedic videos. JibJab has animated political satires. On Networks has high quality productions that reach many audiences. The Smithsonian site has numerous interesting and educational video shorts. StupidVideos is exactly as named.

One more site of high note is TED, an acronym for technology, entertainment, and design. TED has inspirational videos from world experts that are current, relevant, and edifying.

Ready for Mobile TV?

January 13, 2010 - Leave a Response

The following entertainment article was written for Spreety TV Online by professional journalist Carolyn Giardina.

Study: Consumers Are Ready For Mobile TV

By Carolyn Giardina

The notion of watching live television via a mobile device was appealing to half of the 1,000 adult surveyed in a recent national study of mobile device owners by Magid Media Labs, commissioned by the Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC).

The findings suggest that local news and information content will drive live Mobile DTV, with 88% of respondents expressing interest in watching this content on mobile devices including laptops, netbooks, cellular handsets, smartphones, and other devices. The appeal is particularly high among Millennnials, ages 18-29, whose interest in mobile local news is double their current daily viewership on conventional TV sets.

“The laptop has become a personal living tool for all generations,” said Jaime Spencer, director of Magid Media Labs. “As it continues to be a more important element of our lives, in only makes sense that consumers will wants to use it and other mobile devices to watch live over-the-air DTV and Mobile DTV. It delivers a great combination of mobility, convenience, and a quality video experience. Traditional TV delivery methods do not satisfy Millennials’ sensibilities. Making local news and information content available to Millennials on their terms and where they live their lives greatly increases the appeal of this content.”

According to the survey:

– 78% of respondents said they would be most likely to watch live Mobile DTV on a laptop, netbook, cell phone, or smartphone.

– Among those with children in the household, 31% would give the mobile device to their child to watch in the car.

– Live programming is a factor, with 51% saying that they want it to be part of the experience.

– 49% saying they would watch commercials on their mobile device.

– 36% of respondents expressing interest in recent movies, premium sporting events, and other programming on a subscription or pay-per-view basis.

“It’s time for Digital TV to break out of the confines of the living room and reach people where they are living, working, and at play — and Mobile DTV will make all of that possible,” said ION Media Network CEO Brandon Burgess, who also serves as president of the OMVC. “There is no current service that delivers robust over-the-air local broadcast TV news and information to a portable device, but we anticipate dozens of new products to be available along with new Mobile DTV signals that have already begun to roll out around the country. Utilizing the newly-adopted Mobile DTV standard, a host of portable devices will soon make it possible.”

According to OMVC, local broadcasters are gearing up to deliver those services and some 30 OMVC member stations have already begun introducing Mobile DTV to their viewers.

Free Movies Online

January 7, 2010 - Leave a Response

What do you think when you hear the phrase “free movies online“? Is it suspicion of copyright infringement, shadowy looking download sites, or excitement over the tremendous viewing possibilities?

While the checkered past of free movies online has some people cautious, Spreety TV Online at http://Spreety.com has created a video to set the record straight about the right places to watch free movies online.

Some of the new players are Crackle, EPIX, Fancast, and SlashControl. Crackle is backed by Sony Pictures and has hundreds of free movies such as Ghostbusters, Godzilla, and St. Elmo’s Fire. EPIX is the new movie site from Paramount, MGM, and Lionsgate, and is the perfect place to watch Ironman, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and many more popular movies. Fancast is backed by the cable giant Comcast and has hundreds more movies, such as Chaplin, Captain America, and Naked Gun 2.5. SlashControl was started by AOL TimeWarner, and has many more movies such as Sparticus, Ronin, and the classic western Hang ‘em High.

Those sites join the other mainstays of free movies, including Hulu, Veoh, and Joost. Even YouTube has jumped on the bandwagon and legally hosts free movies online, such as classic Shirley Temple films like The Little Princess and Heidi.

Several TV sites also have films online, including American Movie Classics (AMC), Syfy, ABC Family, and TNT.

If you have a Netflix subscription, the Watch Instantly feature comes free for the Owner account. Top films to watch online include Wall-E, Bolt, The Nightmare Before Christmas, as well as the extensive list of STARZ play.

So, if you are going to watch a movie on a computer, here are a few quick tips:

1. Turn the screen saver and power save features to longer than the length of the movie.

2. If watching via an inexpensive wireless router, like the ones AT&T U-Verse hands out for free, make certain the router is well ventilated, as extended viewing could cause some minor over-heating, causing the router to reset, thus causing the movie to take an unexpected intermission.

3. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy.

All of the links to the above are available on the “Movies Online” tab of Spreety TV Online at http://Spreety.com .
